My Three Songs

Every week day on 89.3, The Current, Barb Abney spins three listener requested songs at noon. Listeners usually request songs that have some sort of theme. Today, she played my three songs! My three songs are songs to dance to, and celebrate life, as I know it today. The songs are dedicated to my family. In January I left my full time special education job to become a full time mom and a server at night (check out The Gray House- their food redefines delicious, the tap beers showcase the best of microbrews). Teaching is an honorable career, and something I look forward to doing when my children are no longer toddlers. Being a toddler is, in and of itself, a form of disability in my opinon, and I don't feel my time at home is that big of a stretch from before. Being a mom and a server has decreased my stress 150%, so I selected three songs to celebrate that.  Ironically, we did not get to dance to the songs as I had hoped, as I continue to work in our district one day a week (today), and the boys were in daycare when they played my set. It still makes me happy they played it. The set can be seen on The Current's Playlist, under May 9th, starting at 12:08pm. If I had been able to listen today (as I do the other four days of the week), I would have heard:

Higher Ground, by Stevie Wonder
This song is a shout out to all the teachers, doing the incredible, inspirational, hard work they do, every day! I will be honored to rejoin their ranks full time in a couple of years.

Gold On The Ceiling, by The Black Keys
I am so happy to spend my days with two of the silliest kids I know. This is their favorite song to dance to. They have good taste.

A New Life, by Jim James
I love this song. It perfectly sums up my feelings for my husband, who was my biggest adovcate for our new life. I think he might be benefiting as much from the change as my kids are.

Our Minnesota Public Radio rules. If you are not in Minneapolis, you can stream them online at The Current or on iTunes. Incidentily, this week is their member drive... If you have some spare change, this would be a great place to put it! I will be making my contribution with tips from tomorrow night.

P.S. Thanks Dana for making this set happen and thanks to Barb for playing it!
