Hymie's Vintage Records is celebrating today. In the world of mp3's and music pirates, they still have a lot to celebrate. In 2011 they were voted 'Best Place to Buy Vinyl' by the citypages, and ranked in the top 25 Best Record Store in the US by RollingStone. They also recieved an honorable mention in this weeks issue of 'Best Of...' 2013 CityPages as part of what makes the Longfellow Neighborhood the best neighborhood in Minneapolis to live in (boo yah!). Today's celebration includes a block party including two stages (one indoor and one outdoor), and kegs of Pabst Blue Ribbon. My boys are pretty excited about all the balloons. I'm just waiting for nap time to end, and I think we will stroll down to catch the beginning of Southside Desire's set.
One of the things that makes this store so special is their in store performances. A local favorite, Charlie Parr, played there yesterday.
If you're in town, stop by, have a beer, and buy a record! Happy Record Store Day!
I saw Charlie Parr in Madison a few years back. It looks like he's aged 10,000 years since then.
