Quite possibly my favorite music news story of the summer is the buzz surrounding Sixto Rodriguez. In brief, he had a short music career in the 1970's, and returned to his hometown Detroit to live an oridnary life as a demolition man, as well as obtaining his bachelor of arts degree in philosophy. Unknown to him, he became very famous in South Africa. His daughter learned of his fame when she stumbled across a fan site on the internet in 1998. This summer, the film Searching for Sugar Man was released documenting two fans' search for Rodriguez. He never had fame in the United States until this summer. I am very happy for the Detroit native, and really love his hit song, 'Sugar Man'! Click on this link to read more on his story: NPR. He also appears on David Letterman tonight.
