Excitement for the show began last April. The day the concert date was announced, my friend CL called and left me a voicemail about it, unaware that I had left the same voicemail on her phone 30 minutes prior. Tickets were bought immediately. Not only was it a great show, but I was a wonderful date with my old college roommate who lives way too far from home.
Beruit played at my favorite venue in Minneapolis, the Cabooze's parking lot. As I had written and requested the band perform in Minneapolis over four years ago, this event for me was well overdue. It was everything I could have hoped for! A beautiful, hot summer night out with a great friend. This was the first large-act popular band that I have attended that did not have a single guitar on stage. There were trumpets, a tuba, trombone, accordian, percussion/drums, an upright bass, and even flugalhorn. Another first for me was I suddenly felt proud of my flugalhorn roots. That's me, over a decade ago, no idea that I would ever feel any sort of German Band pride:
Zach Condon's voice was like velvet, and his trumpet and flugalhorn skills were crisp and mesmerizing. His stage presence was adorable... It is safe to say I have a new crush. As if that was not enough, the concert ended with a bang, literally. As soon as the band finished playing, the Aquatennial's fireworks began. The crowd stuck around, ordered one last drink, and was able to enjoy the view.
Thanks Beruit and CL for a perfect summer evening!
You should be proud of your flugalhorn knowledge and prowess. Also, I love that German band picture. It was an awesome evening--I'm glad I got to spend it with you!
