Doc Watson is gone

My favorite Doc Watson song... "Southbound". He makes virtuosity look so easy.

It's an interesting juxtaposition... most people have probably never hear of Doc Watson, but the day he died the New York Times had at least four separate articles on his passing. My favorite is this one, notable for the story about how his father made him a banjo out of the family cat. A few years back Doc was in Madison but I was out of town the weekend of the show. I've always felt like I missed an opportunity that weekend. Even more so now.

Doc (and a host of other legends) is featured on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's amazing double album, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken". I highly recommend it.
