You can check out the new album by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros at First Listen (npr.org).
A few weeks ago I heard the track Man on Fire on the current (89.3 in
Minneapolis). I pretended I didn't hear it. When I heard it for the
second time, a wave of disappointment washed over my body. I enjoyed
both the band's Up from Below and Alex Ebert's Alexander so much, that
my anticipation for this new album was high, to say the least. After
several listens to that track on the radio, as well as a brief listen to
the new album, I can't help but feel the band left Burning Man, took a
shower, and auditioned for the a part on The Partridge Family. I am still excited
for the concert I will be attending on Friday night... I have decided
to not listen to the album further until the band can convince me I'm
wrong in person. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised for an artist who
got his start as Ima Robot. I think the very talented Alex Ebert has had
a long lasting identity crisis.
