UW Arboretum - Shortly after 9:00am Sunday morning. I made the first tracks of the day on the trail that hugs the marchy area along the south shore of Lake Wingra. Fresh snow was falling, but the water in this algae filled creek was not frozen. The result was the stunning contrast between the mossy green water and the pure white snow. I can across this scene skiing alone listening to the amazing July 18, 1976 Greateful Dead show at the Orpheum Theather in San Francisco, CA.
My Deadhead days are long past, but I had long ago come to the conclusion that the best thing to listen to while downhill skiing out west is an old live Dead show. Today I came to the conclusion that the same holds true for cross county skiing. Which brings me to Deadpod.
With Deadpod you get, absolutely for free, a new set from a Dead show each and every week. Usually you get the first set one week and the second the next. I've been signed up for years, and months will go by and I don't listen to it, but over the years when I have paid attention I've heard some great stuff. It's not all great. They play far too many shows from the 80's and 90's for my taste... but there is nothing like strapping some skis to your feet and heading out on a crisp winter day with a good Dead show.
Anyway, that's my ramble. It sounded good in my head while I was skiing.
I might have to sign up. I love combing through the shows on Archive.org for hidden gems.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth it. My only complaint that there are too many 80's shows. But when you hear the professor say that this week's show is from the 70's you know it's going to be good.
